Overview

Cytometry is the measurement of the physical and chemical characteristics of cells, enabling quantitative analysis of cell populations at the single-cell level. Flow cytometry passes cells in suspension through a focused laser, using fluorescently labeled antibodies and light-scatter signals to determine size, granularity, surface and intracellular markers, viability, and functional state, and can sort defined subsets. These techniques underpin immunophenotyping, immunomonitoring, and the characterization of immune and malignant cells in research and diagnostics, complementing cytological and immunoassay-based methods. Research relevant to this journal applies cell-analysis and immunomonitoring methods to study cellular markers and immune responses. Studies include immunoassay and emerging immunogenomic approaches for immunomonitoring cancer and infectious disease, fine-needle aspiration cytology of lymphoid lesions and the assessment of atypical or suspicious diagnostic categories, development of cellular and molecular biomarkers for anti-inflammatory activity, evaluation of immune responses to vaccination, expression of neuropilin-1/CD304 in leukemogenesis, and analysis of glucose-related apoptosis in stored platelets. Related work examines lymphoma characterization, isolation of antigen-specific antibodies, and cell-damage assays. The journal publishes peer-reviewed research relevant to cell analysis, immunology, and the measurement of cellular markers in immune and disease states.
