Editorial Policies
The policies that govern peer review, research ethics, publication integrity, authorship, data, corrections and licensing at JNRT.
Editorial standards
The Journal of Neurological Research and Therapy follows the publication-ethics guidance of COPE and applies the same standards to every manuscript, whatever its source. Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal. Editorial decisions are independent of the article processing charge (USD 2,100), which is payable only after acceptance; withdrawal after submission is subject to the journal's withdrawal policy.
How a manuscript moves from submission to decision
Editorial screening
An editor first checks each submission for scope, ethics and basic methodological soundness before it is sent for review. Basic and experimental studies need no immediate clinical application, provided they address a clear neuroscience or neurological question.
Independent peer review
Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
Editorial decision
The handling editor weighs the reviewers' reports and makes the decision.
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal, and are independent of the article processing charge. See the full instructions for authors for what to prepare.
Journal policies
From peer review to retractions, each area is governed by a clear, COPE-aligned policy.
Peer review & editorial process
Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal's scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts. Final decisions are made by the handling editor, informed by the reviewers' reports.
Publication ethics & integrity
COPE-aligned throughout. Every submission is screened for textual similarity, with zero tolerance for plagiarism, fabrication and falsification.
Research involving human participants
Studies involving people require approval from an appropriate research ethics committee or institutional review board, with the approval number stated in the manuscript, and informed consent, or a waiver documented by the ethics committee, where applicable; case reports require written consent for publication. Interventional clinical trials must be registered in an accepted public trial registry at or before the first participant provides consent for enrollment. The registry name, registration number, and registration date must be reported in the manuscript.
Research involving animals
Studies involving animals require prior approval from the relevant institutional animal care and use committee or animal ethics committee; the committee name and approval reference number must be stated in the manuscript. Animal work must comply with applicable national and institutional animal-welfare regulations, apply the 3Rs (Replacement, Reduction and Refinement), and be reported in line with the ARRIVE guidelines.
Authorship & CRediT
All listed authors approve the final manuscript and meet recognized authorship criteria. Contributions are described using the CRediT taxonomy, and funding and any medical-writing or editorial assistance must be acknowledged.
Use of AI tools
In line with COPE and ICMJE, generative-AI and large-language-model tools cannot be listed as authors and cannot be cited as a source. Authors must disclose any use of AI in writing or in producing data, figures or analyses, stating the tool and how it was used, and remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality and integrity of their work.
Conflicts of interest
Authors, editors and reviewers disclose competing interests, financial or otherwise. Editors and reviewers with a conflict of interest are recused before assignment, and relevant disclosures are published with the article.
Plagiarism screening
Every manuscript is checked for textual similarity against the published literature before review. Overlap, including with an author's own prior work, is assessed and resolved under COPE guidance.
Data availability & self-archiving
Every empirical research manuscript must include a data-availability statement. Sharing of underlying data is encouraged where ethics and consent allow. Because every article is CC BY 4.0, authors may archive the published version in any repository, immediately and with no embargo.
Corrections & retractions
We publish transparent corrections, retractions and expressions of concern following COPE flowcharts when the record needs to be put right. These notices stay on the permanent record. Correcting and, where necessary, retracting work is a normal part of research integrity.
Appeals & complaints
Authors may appeal with a clear, evidence-based rationale, reviewed by a senior editor not involved in the original decision. Complaints about process or conduct are handled confidentially with documented outcomes.
Manuscript withdrawal
Requests to withdraw a submitted manuscript are handled under the manuscript withdrawal policy on the article processing charges page.
Copyright & open-access licensing
Authors retain copyright. Articles are published under CC BY 4.0, made immediately open access, and assigned a permanent Crossref DOI. Anyone may read, share and reuse the work with attribution.
Digital preservation
This journal’s content is committed to Portico, a not-for-profit digital-preservation archive run by ITHAKA (the organization behind JSTOR). As articles are deposited they enter Portico’s permanent archive, so the scholarly record stays available for the long term — even if a title one day ceases to publish. Read our preservation policy.
What these policies protect

Textual-similarity screening and zero tolerance for plagiarism, fabrication and falsification.
Conflicts, appeals and complaints
Competing interests declared, with conflicted editors and reviewers recused, appeals reviewed by an uninvolved senior editor, and complaints handled confidentially.
Accountable authorship
All authors approve the final manuscript, contributions are described with CRediT, and funding and writing help are acknowledged.
Correcting the record
Transparent corrections, retractions and expressions of concern, kept on the permanent record, with authors supplying underlying data on request.
Open, citable science
CC BY 4.0 with authors retaining copyright, immediate open access and a permanent Crossref DOI on every article.
Long-term preservation
Journal content is committed to Portico, a not-for-profit digital-preservation archive, for long-term access to the scholarly record.
