What the journal publishes
Basic, clinical, applied, experimental and translational research in neuroscience and neurology, from molecular and cellular mechanisms to clinical care and rehabilitation.
Neuroscience and neurology research, from mechanism to clinical care
The Journal of Neurological Research and Therapy welcomes basic, clinical, applied, experimental and translational research that advances understanding of the nervous system and neurological disorders, including their prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation. Coverage includes molecular, cellular, systems and computational neuroscience; laboratory and animal-model investigations; clinical studies; neuroimaging; neurotechnology; therapeutics; and rehabilitation. The journal aims to connect fundamental understanding of the nervous system with advances in neurological disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation, and gives that work a citable, open-access route to the researchers and clinicians who use it.
Eligibility. Basic and experimental studies are eligible without an immediate clinical application, provided they address a clear neuroscience or neurological question with appropriate scientific methods.
Is your study in scope?
The lists below summarize work that is in scope and work that falls outside it.
In scope
- Basic, clinical, applied, experimental and translational research in neuroscience and neurology
- Molecular, cellular, systems and computational neuroscience; animal-model, laboratory, in-vitro and computational studies that address a clear neuroscience or neurological question, with or without an immediate clinical application
- Clinical studies in areas including epilepsy, neurodegeneration (ALS and motor neuron disease, Parkinson's disease, dementia and Alzheimer's disease), multiple sclerosis and neuroimmunology, stroke and neurovascular disease, neurotrauma and neurocritical care, neuro-oncology, pediatric neurology and clinical neurophysiology
- Neuroimaging, neurotechnology, therapeutics and rehabilitation
Out of scope
- Topics with no neuroscience or neurological question, for example general internal medicine, oncology or cardiology without a nervous-system focus. Work in which the neuroscience or neurological question is central and documented may fit.
- Sports and exercise science without a neuroscience or neurological question. Work on neurotrauma or concussion with a clear neurological question is in scope.
- Unsupported opinion: viewpoints not grounded in cited evidence, data or a documented clinical case. Evidence-grounded Perspectives, Commentaries and Letters to the Editor are welcome; see the Instructions for Authors for their requirements.

Review, access and charges
JNRT is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal for basic, clinical, applied, experimental and translational research in neuroscience and neurology.
Editorial board
Manuscripts are handled by subject-expert editors in neuroscience and neurology, supported by an international board of clinicians and researchers.
Peer review
Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
Open access with a DOI
Articles are published open access under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) license, each with a permanent Crossref DOI.
Case reports
Well-documented neurological case reports, including short case series, are welcome when they carry clear, generalizable learning.
Editorial screening
Each submission is acknowledged and screened by the editorial office before peer review.
Article processing charge
A single article processing charge of USD 2,100 is payable only after acceptance; withdrawal after submission is subject to the journal's withdrawal policy. There is no fee to submit or to be reviewed.
Pre-submission inquiries
Send a working title and short abstract, and the editorial office will advise whether your study is in scope before you prepare a full submission.
