Join the editorial board
Handle manuscripts in your area of neuroscience or neurology, guide independent peer review, and make editorial decisions.
What this means for authors
Every manuscript is handled by an editor in the relevant area of neuroscience or neurology, who selects conflict-free reviewers. Decisions are made by the handling editor. Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal, and are independent of the article processing charge.
What editing for JNRT involves
The same standard applies to everyone who shapes the journal: rigor, transparency and research ethics first.
Assess fit and rigor
Screen submissions in your specialty for scope, methodology and research ethics before and during review. Basic and experimental studies are eligible without an immediate clinical application when they address a clear neuroscience or neurological question with appropriate methods; assess them on that basis.
Run the review
Select and invite qualified, conflict-free reviewers and manage peer review. Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. When double-blind review is requested, editors must ensure that author-identifying information is not shared with reviewers.
Editorial decisions
Make clear, evidence-based recommendations and decisions on the manuscripts you handle.
Uphold integrity
Work to COPE standards, manage conflicts of interest, and recuse where appropriate. For animal studies, check that approval from an institutional animal care and use or animal ethics committee is reported with its reference number, that the work shows compliance with applicable national and institutional animal-welfare regulations and the 3Rs, and that reporting follows the ARRIVE guidelines.
Recognition
Academic recognition, not payment.
Board listing
A listed seat on the editorial board with your own profile page on the journal.
Editorial record
A visible editorial role in the neuroscience and neurology literature, citable in your record of service.
Review recognition
Editorial and review activity can be recognized via your ORCID record.
A manageable commitment
Editing for JNRT is designed to fit a working academic's schedule: you handle a small number of manuscripts a year within your specialty. Manuscripts are assigned within your area of expertise.
Appointment by invitation or application
Every editor is checked for subject expertise, publication record and conflicts of interest before appointment, so that board expertise matches the journal's scope.
