Themed calls

Special issues & focused calls

Alongside year-round submissions, we run focused calls led by a guest editor. See the special issues page for any current call, propose one below, or submit to the current volume any time.

Lead a special issue on your topic

Researchers with relevant expertise and a timely theme in neuroscience or neurology may propose a guest-edited special issue. Guest-edited collections follow the journal's standard peer review and open-access publication. Regular submissions to the current volume are accepted throughout the year.

What we are seeking

Research areas we publish year-round

Beyond any themed call, we welcome basic, clinical, applied, experimental and translational research in neuroscience and neurology, including molecular, cellular, systems and computational neuroscience; laboratory and animal-model investigations; clinical studies; neuroimaging; neurotechnology; therapeutics; and rehabilitation. The areas below, which include neuro-oncology and pediatric neurology, are examples.

Review, publication and charges

Editorial screening

Each submission is acknowledged and screened by the editorial office before peer review.

Subject-expert editors

Each manuscript is handled by a subject-expert editor, supported by an international editorial board.

Crossref DOI

A Crossref DOI on every article. Crossref DOI registration and open metadata support discovery in scholarly search services.

Open access, you keep copyright

Immediate CC BY 4.0 publication. You retain copyright and can deposit the published version in any repository, with no embargo.

Article processing charge

A single APC of USD 2,100, invoiced after acceptance; there is no fee to submit or be reviewed. Withdrawal after submission is subject to the journal's withdrawal policy.

Editorial system

Submit and track manuscripts through ManuscriptZone. Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request.

Who should submit

Clinicians, neuroscientists, trainees and academic teams worldwide may submit; no invitation is required. We welcome laboratory, experimental and clinical studies and well-documented case reports. Fee-relief inquiries are considered case by case; contact the editorial office before or at submission. Editorial decisions are independent of ability to pay. See article processing charges ›

How to submit

Three steps from manuscript to review

1

Prepare your manuscript

Format to our author guidelines for your article type: abstract, structure, references and, where applicable, reporting checklists.

2

Submit through one route

Primary route: ManuscriptZone. Alternative route: the simple manuscript submission form. Assisted route: email [email protected]. Authors must use only one submission route for the same manuscript. There is no fee to submit or to be reviewed.

3

Acknowledgment & review

Each submission is acknowledged and screened by the editorial office before peer review. Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request.

Regular submissions are accepted throughout the year

Accepted articles are published on a rolling basis. Authors unsure whether their work fits may send a working title and short abstract to [email protected] before preparing a full submission.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a submission deadline?
Regular submissions are accepted throughout the year, and accepted articles are published on a rolling basis. Any deadline for a special issue is listed with its call on the special issues page.
What topics are you calling for?
Basic, clinical, applied, experimental and translational research in neuroscience and neurology, including epilepsy and seizure disorders; neurodegeneration and movement disorders; stroke and cerebrovascular disease; multiple sclerosis and neuroimmunology; neurotrauma and clinical neurophysiology; neuro-oncology; pediatric neurology; neuroimaging and neurotechnology; and basic and experimental neuroscience. Basic and experimental studies are eligible without an immediate clinical application, provided they address a clear neuroscience or neurological question with appropriate scientific methods. Case reports, including short case series, are welcome as an article format. See the full Aims and Scope.
Who can submit?
Any author with an original, ethically conducted neuroscience or neurology contribution in one of the accepted article types: clinicians, neuroscientists, trainees and academic teams worldwide. There is no requirement to be invited.
Is there a submission fee?
No. There is no charge to submit or to be peer-reviewed. A single article processing charge of USD 2,100 is invoiced after acceptance. Withdrawal after submission is subject to the journal's withdrawal policy.
How long does the first decision take?
Timing depends on reviewer availability and the revisions required; the editorial office keeps authors informed. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
What if I am not sure my manuscript fits?
Email a working title and short abstract to the editorial office, which will advise whether it is in scope before you prepare a full submission.
Do you run special issues?
From time to time, when there is a strong topic and a committed guest editor, JNRT runs a focused special issue. See the special issues page for any current call, or propose your own. You can also submit to the current volume at any time.
Is the work open access, and who keeps copyright?
Yes. Every accepted article is published open access under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY 4.0) license, authors retain copyright, and each article receives a permanent Crossref DOI. Crossref DOI registration and open metadata support discovery in scholarly search services.
